Halcyon's Neuron Performance Manager aggregates Solaris zone performance data to proactively monitor overall server utilization and quickly identify bottlenecks and excess capacity. This solution enables organizations to optimize their virtual environment to improve service levels, reduce costs, and increase availability of critical business applications.
Unlike traditional reporting tools, Neuron Performance Manager automatically collects important Oracle Solaris performance data such as CPU and memory usage from Zones and Containers and aggregates them into a single graph. This allows administrators to view historical trends and predict future capacity needs on both physical and virtual hosts.
- Monitor the Health, Performance, and Availability of Solaris Zones
Proactively monitoring key performance indicators enables users to quickly highlight application degradation issues before business services are impacted. Halcyon goes beyond tracking CPU, memory, filesystem, and network utilization to also include Zone and Container state, application health, and hardware availability. In addition, users can run automated corrective actions for problems detected or view historical performance trends and correlate graphical spikes to running processes to quickly troubleshoot issues and outages.
- Aggregate and Compare Solaris Zone Performance Data
Neuron Performance Manager collects performance data from individual Zones and Containers and provides aggregated graphical reports to display the overall utilization of virtualized Solaris hosts. This enables users to easily identify resource intensive Zones or excess capacity and balance application workloads across servers using Zone migration. In addition, users can compare the utilization of multiple Zones or alter hardware constraints such as CPU or memory allocations for virtual machines that are dominating resources.
- Automate and Integrate Performance Reports
Performance reports can quickly be created on-demand or scheduled for delivery to an email address as a PDF. This enables users to save time by automating periodic performance reports that can be generated and emailed to management on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. In addition, performance data can also be exported to other common formats, for use in third party monitoring, graphing, and capacity planning tools, or for long-term backup and storage.
- Increase application availability and improve service levels of critical business applications
- Optimize server utilization and balance workloads across your datacenter
- Reduce costs and maximize ROI by integrating performance data from multiple heterogeneous sources
- Simplify infrastructure management and lower TCO by minimizing deployment, training, and ongoing maintenance costs
The Halcyon Neuron Performance Manager solution consists of two main components:
Neuron Performance Manager
Neuron Performance Manager acts as a server tier and centralizes the viewing and management of performance reports. It is supported on the following platforms:
- Oracle Solaris
- Red Hat Linux
Neuron Agent
Neuron Agents can be deployed in the global Zone to monitor all the Zones on the system or installed in each local zone for deeper visibility to Solaris. The agents are responsible for locally collecting performance data and providing it to the Neuron Performance Manager. The Neuron Agent supports the following platforms:
- Oracle Solaris
- OpenSolaris (Solaris 11 Express) Linux
Halcyon also provides performance monitoring for heterogeneous environments and offers the following supported platforms:
- Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Novell SUSE)
- Microsoft Windows
- IBM AIX
- HP Tru64
