Overview

Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center enables organizations
to leverage their existing Enterprise Management Framework (EMF) to
gain visibility into the health, performance, and status of critical
business services in addition to the hardware and software components
that make up the services.
This distribution includes the following solution offerings for Sun
Ops Center:
1. Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center
2. Neuron Hardware Monitoring for Sun Ops Center
3. Neuron OS & Application Monitoring for Sun Ops Center
1. Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center
========================================
Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center captures notifications
from Sun Ops Center, transforming them into Neuron events, then
seamlessly integrates them with other management frameworks.
Notifications include hardware system component failures, as well
as OS health and performance metrics such as inadequate CPU, memory,
or disk.
This solution enables organizations to integrate Sun Ops Center
notifications to most 3rd party EMFs using sophisticated yet easy to
create rules with event filters, automated actions, and schedules.
The following integration adapters are bundled with this solution:
- IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console
- IBM Tivoli Netcool
- HP OpenView
- BMC Event Manager
2. Neuron Hardware Monitoring for Sun Ops Center
================================================
Halcyon Neuron Hardware Monitoring for Sun Ops Center enables
organizations to gain visibility into the health and status of their
entire hardware estate.
This solution leverages Sun Management Center to provide best-of-breed
hardware monitoring for Sun environments, and Halcyon Neuron Agents
for monitoring non-Sun hardware including heterogeneous desktops and
servers, storage, and networking devices.
Sun Management Center agents proactively capture granular hardware
faults from Sun servers including power supply failures, voltage
fluctuations, and CPU temperatures. Halcyon Neuron Agents provide
hardware monitoring coverage for non-Sun hardware and platforms.
Faults detected can be directly integrated into Sun Ops Center
from the agents.
Halcyon Neuron Hardware Monitoring for Sun Ops Center has coverage
for:
- Sun SPARC/x86
- Fujitsu PRIMEPOWER
- IBM PowerPCs
- HP Tru64
- Cisco
- Brocade
- Hitachi
- NetApp

organizations to gain visibility into the health, performance, and
availability of operating systems and applications.
Halcyon Neuron Agents provide OS and application monitoring coverage
for heterogeneous operating systems and applications. Problems
detected are directly integrated into Sun Ops Center from the
agents.

Halcyon Neuron Core

The Neuron Core is the framework that is central to all Halcyon Neuron
Integration Products. The Neuron Core provides the ability to execute
scripts when events are received (see READMEs included in the Core
directory for more details).
Also included as part of the Neuron Core are Halcyon's Neuron
EventViewer and Halcyon's Neuron Agent Viewer. The EventViewer
displays received events matching any of the specified filtering
criteria while the Agent Viewer allows users to access any Neuron
Agents in their environment directly via the Neuron Core (see
README.EventViewer README.NeuronAgentViewer within the Core directory
for more details).
NOTE: The Neuron Core is required by all Halcyon Integration
products.

directory.
Halcyon Neuron Event Manager

The Neuron Event Manager is a web-based interface for creating and
managing Rules. Rules consist of user defined event filters,
automated actions and schedules and are meant to allow specific
actions to be taken when specific events are received by the Neuron
Core.
Please see the README.EventManager user guide within the Event Manager
directory for more details.
This product can be found in the Halcyon_Neuron_Event_Manager_[VERSION]
directory.
Halcyon Integration for Sun Ops Center

The Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center provides the
ability for the Halcyon Neuron Core to receive events from and
transmit notifications to Sun Ops Center.
Notifications that occur within Sun Ops Center can be received by
the Halcyon Neuron Core and transformed into Neuron Events which can
then be sent out to a variety of other Enterprise Management
Frameworks using the integration products noted below.

Halcyon Integration for IBM Tivoli
======================================================================
The Halcyon Neuron Integration for IBM Tivoli can be utilized to
transmit Neuron Events to IBM Tivoli using Tivoli's postemsg. Coupled
with the Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center, this provides
the ideal way to have your Sun Ops Center notifications appear within
IBM Tivoli.

Halcyon Integration for IBM Tivoli Netcool

The Halcyon Neuron Integration for IBM Tivoli Netcool can be utilized

with the Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center, this provides
the ideal way to have your Sun Ops Center notifications appear within
IBM Tivoli Netcool.

Halcyon Integration for HP OpenView

ideal way to have your Sun Ops Center notifications appear within
HP OpenView.

Halcyon Integration for BMC Event Manager

The Halcyon Neuron Integration for BMC Event Manager can be utilized
to transmit Neuron Events to BMC Event Manager via SNMP. Coupled with
the Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center, this provides
the ideal way to have your Sun Ops Center notifications appear within
BMC EventManager.

Halcyon Integration for Sun Management Center

The Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Management Center provides the
ability for the Halcyon Neuron Core to retrieve alarms from your
existing Sun Management Center installations.
Once translated into Neuron Events, the Neuron Core can then utilize
the Halcyon Neuron Integration for Sun Ops Center to send all those
Sun Management Center alarms into Sun Ops Center.
This product can be found in the
Halcyon_Integration_for_Sun_Management_Center_[VERISION] directory.
Installation and Uninstallation Instructions
======================================================================
The Halcyon Neuron Core is a pre-requisite for all Halcyon Integration
products.
1) Install the Halcyon Neuron Core. Instructions can be found in
Halcyon_Neuron_Core_[VERSION]/README.install
2) Install the Halcyon Neuron Event Manager. Instructions can be
found in
Halcyon_Neuron_Event_Manager_[VERSION]/README.install
3) Install the Integration for Sun Ops Center. Instructions can
be found in
Halcyon_Integration_for_Sun_Ops_Center_[VERSION]/README.install
4) Install any of the other integration products outlined above to
complete your required integration solution. Installation
instructions can be found in the README.install file within each
directory.
NOTE: It is advisable to review all other READMEs included with the
products being installed. They contain important information
on what the product does and how to configure it.
