Halcyon PrimeAlert (R) PlusPack
Version 2.1.0
README
======================================================================
Overview
======================================================================
This distribution contains seven separate modules:
1. PrimeAlert DirectoryMonitor
2. PrimeAlert FileBrowser
3. PrimeAlert FileSizeMonitor
4. PrimeAlert LogFileMonitor
5. PrimeAlert ProcessMonitor
6. PrimeAlert Top10
7. PrimeAlert SystemMonitor (Solaris only)
PrimeAlert DirectoryMonitor can be used to monitor the size of
directories on a host. The subdirectories and links may be viewed
recursively using a window accessible from the module's pop-up menu.
PrimeAlert FileBrowser can be used to view files on a remote host
where an agent is running. This feature is particularly useful in
network configurations where critical system and application logfiles
are not accessible using telnet or rlogin.
PrimeAlert FileBrowser user interface allows users to search a
logfile's contents for regular expression patterns that indicate
conditions of interest, and to customize the display to highlight
logfile messages matching these patterns with user-defined,
color-coded severities.
PrimeAlert FileSizeMonitor can be used to monitor the status of
files on a host. The size of the file, its rate of growth, and its
last modification time are displayed in the console.
PrimeAlert LogFileMonitor can be used to scan a single local file
or a series of local files for user-specified patterns. Multiple
files (or multiple series of files) may be scanned by loading
multiple instances of the module for a Sun MC/PrimeAlert agent.
PrimeAlert ProcessMonitor allows the monitoring of a process or
groups of processes running on an agent host system. It is possible
to define process matching criteria to determine the processes to
be monitored.
PrimeAlert Top10 monitors those processes that consume a significant
amount of CPU time. It provides some basic information about these
processes, such as process ID, command line arguments, user name,
process elapsed time, average CPU usage, and so on. This information
can be viewed from the console. The module also provides several
advanced features such as data logging and graphing, alarm actions,
and process filtering, that allow the user to monitor only the
processes that the user is interested in.
PrimeAlert SystemMonitor can be used to monitor key resources of the
Solaris operating system. Items of interest include system information
such as CPU, swap, and filesystem usage, user and process statistics,
system load, and network information.
